power generator Northern Utility Resources (NUR) appoints CDMR to supply
DocControl DMS.

Challenge
The project MIS Consultants – Snowy Mountains
Engineering Consultants (SMEC) – and NUR selected the DocControl
system to manage NUR’s documents on-site at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park in
northern Peninsular Malaysia. This is an on-going contract for CDMR and
involves several IT companies including SCS Computer Systems who are the
Systems Integrators. NUR operates a combined gas cycle power plant that
supplies electricity to the entire technology park. Individual
departments involved in the NUR project manage the bulk of the documents
on-site. There is a lack of standardization of procedures and
inconsistencies in the way documents are registered, retrieved, stored
and archived. Due to the nature of their documents, NUR also required a
method to track hard copies and launch pre-defined document templates
from DocControl.

DocControl Solution
The DocControl system will help NUR re-evaluate
their document management procedures. This includes special effort to
get the discrete departments to communicate with each other and
centralize the points for document registration to promote uniformity.
Customization was required to handle hard-copy tracking and document
templates. The DocControl Records & Logs will be useful for
recording all important user actions and enabling an easier self or
external audit. DocControl will also capture fax images exported into
the system from NUR’s electronic fax management software. This
bypasses additional scanning or manual distribution work that can be
extremely time consuming and paper intensive.
